Ultracapacitors - the Weapon of Choice for Countering Grid Warfare

A dispute between Serbia and Kosovo regarding electricity usage of Kosovo has had a significant domino effect on the whole European grid (ENTSO-E). In 25 countries, the 50 Hz has been reduced in order to cater for the energy needed to keep Kosovo from suffering regular blackouts. This meant that all grid-operated clocks such as oven clocks, alarm clocks, boiler ignition clocks (for central heating for example) are late with respect to controlled time.

What Is in the Pipeline for Maritime Transport?

The International Maritime Organization (IMO for short) proposes to drastically reduce emission coming from the maritime industry.

It is believed that maritime transport alone causes 25% of the world's CO2 emissions.  Up to recently, the industry has been using "Bunker oil".  It is the lowest form of fuel coming from the oil refining process and the most polluting fossil fuel after coal.  Bunker is used routinely in cruise ships where the air is 20 times as polluted as in major city centers.  This is so bad that people living near the port of Marseilles fear the cruise ships will destroy their health

In 1997 the inhabitants of the Isle of Eigg raised enough funds to take back control of their Island.  Their next project was to see if it was possible to become independent from volatile oil prices, previously everyone on the island needed their own generator to generate electricity.

As we have seen for island closer to the Mainland and small islands it is possible to reach a percentage in the renewable mix that is relatively high, even all the way to 100% for the Isle of Eigg.  The population of these islands is low, from a few hundred to a 100000+, but what happens when the population is around 400000?

10 Kilograms of Ultracapacitors Powering 66 Tons of Steel

Mining as an industry is one of the harshest for both man and machine. Dust and dirt are ever-present and a challenge for mining equipment, but it's the constant temperature changes from one extreme to the other that wreak havoc on the electronics in mining machinery and kill batteries. From outside temperatures that instantly freeze your breath, to the sweltering heat underground, mining trucks, bulldozers, and other machinery have to operate reliably in any conditions.

Wind Turbine Pitch Control - Ultracapacitors Solving Unreliability & Unpredictability with the Lowest TCO

It's difficult to appreciate just how big wind turbines are without getting up close. A 10 MW turbine can have blades longer than 70 meters, which also means the blades and the turbine itself must withstand massive forces. This, in turn, means that there are several basic safety requirements wild turbines must adhere to, the most important of which relate to stopping the turbine and blades in case of power failure or unsafe winds.

Skeleton Technologies' production facility in Grossröhrsdorf, Germany, is located in a cluster of high-tech manufacturing companies, in an area known colloquially as Silicon Saxony. In fact, the availability of skilled workforce and existing infrastructure were some of the key reasons behind Skeleton deciding on the location of the new production facility in Saxony.

Ants Vill, Skeleton Technologies' VP of Product, has been in charge of setting up Skeleton's first production line in Estonia, and in 2017, together with his team planned and engineered the move to Germany. Mr Vill explains the complexities of ultracapacitor production:

Transportation is responsible for about 25% of global CO2 emissions, and out of this number, about 30-40% comes from cargo transport. This means that any energy efficiency increase in cargo transportation will inevitably have a big impact on a global level. At Skeleton Technologies, we offer three different solutions to improve the efficiency of port cranes. Get in touch with us to discuss more.

Safely moving heavy loads from ship to sea floor is a basic requirement in the offshore industry. Typical tasks include the following: pipeline construction and repair, placement of oil and gas wellheads, installing sub-assemblies on drilling rigs or maintenance and repair activities. Similar operations entail dredging, underwater salvage, geotechnical surveys and maintaining offshore wind turbines.

Ultracapacitors Smooth Voltage Dips with VSD Backup Power

Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) are important for various production processes, because they are used to operate the electrical motors powering those processes. However, poor power quality can impact the production processes negatively, leading to machinery and production shutdowns and production loss. In some cases cleaning up the production lines and re-starting production can take days, so poor power quality and the problems it brings can be a serious issue for many manufacturing plants.
